At the pharmacy
In Belgium, medicines are almost exclusively sold in pharmacies.
Non-prescription over-the-counter medicines are not refunded. You can save up to 40 % by asking your pharmacist for the most affordable product.
Prescription medicines are reimbursed fully or partly.
- Bring your prescription and your ID card to the pharmacy. If you don’t have an electronic ID, you can bring an ISI+ card, the social security card for kids under 12 and people who cannot receive an official ID, such as cross-border workers.
- You pay copay at the pharmacy.
- Your health insurance fund pays the rest directly to the pharmacist.
If you have no electronic ID or ISI+ card, bring your EHIC card. You will have to pay the full price at the pharmacy and request a reimbursement from your health insurance fund.
